The cleverest creature on this coast. Curious, many-armed, at home in the rock pools the fishermen's children grew up raiding. Naming a restaurant after it was a small joke and a large truth — because a good host is an octopus: eight arms carrying platters, pouring wine, stoking the boma, waving the boats in.
De See Kat sits on Crayfish Wharf, above the beach where Paternoster's brightly painted bakkies still land the daily catch. Guests at the rail watch the boats come in at four and eat what came in yesterday. The restaurant grew from that vantage point — first a place locals defended fiercely, then the table travellers planned whole weekends around.
And then there is the sushi — the thing nobody expects two hours up a wind-blown coast. A kitchen that can do delicate work in a village of open fires is a kitchen that takes the afternoon seriously. Locals call it Paternoster sushi. We call it proof.
